Jefferies relishes hectic season

Barely three months into the year, motor racing star Axcil Jefferies appears to be enjoying the action-packed season on the international scene.

The Zimbabwean has already won two of the four races in the Asia Le Man Series last month for an overall runner-up finish in the Asia Le Man Series.

Jefferies teamed up with Julien Andlauer and Allan Ferte in the UAE-based motorsport team GPX Racing team for the competition.

In January, the 27-year-old ensured a winning start to the year, helping the GPX Racing team to a first-ever victory in the Dubai 24Hour Endurance race.

GPX Racing’s success earned the team a place in the world’s oldest active sports car endurance racing, held annually since 1923, near the town of Le Mans in France.

The 89th 24 Hours of Le Mans will take place from August 21 to  22 this year.

“What a month we had! So proud to have been part of! And finally we managed to get an entry for Le Mans! “Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this,” Jefferies wrote on his social media handles a fortnight ago while he listed the team’s achievements.

“Super excited to announce that I will be competing in the @lemanscup Championship in the @frikadelli_r Ligier LMP3 alongside team owner Klaus Abbelen,” he said a couple of days later.

It is promising to be a hectic season for Jefferies, who is going to take part in the 44th Nürburgring Langstrecken Series (NLS), a German endurance competition which begins at the end of the month and concludes in October.

He will be racing for Konrad Motorsport.

“NLS 1 end of this month can’t wait to (get) back at the best circuit in the world and with my guys @konrad_motorsport,” Jefferies took to social media on Friday.

Jefferies’ other team from last year Madpanda Motorsport will seek to defend its Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Silver Cup class title in a single Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.

The Spanish squad Madpanda Motorsport announced their return to the series on Wednesday last week, with the 2020 Silver Cup drivers’ champion and team principal Ezequiel Companc named as the lead driver.

Companc will compete in both endurance Cup and Sprint Cup while his co-drivers for the two series are yet to be announced.

Companc and Jefferies placed second in the Sprint Cup standings behind Sainteloc Racing’s Simon Gachet and Steven Palette.

Jefferies could join the team again this year for a second GT World Challenge Europe appearance.

Madpanda recently conducted two February tests at Valencia, which is a new venue for Sprint Cup this year, and Monza where the 2021 Endurance season is due to start.
